Who is this course for?
The Defensive Carbine Clinic is for the rifle owner who is interested in utilizing that rifle for defensive purposes inside or outside the home. No prior experience is required; however, students should be familiar with basic operation and function of their chosen firearm.
What can you expect?
Students in this clinic will learn how to employ a rifle or carbine in a defensive manner. Participants will learn the differences between different types of carbines and rifles, their calibers, piston vs. direct impingement, selecting appropriate ammunition for your rifle, and how to operate a rifle in a defensive scenario. The end goal is to demonstrate to students that they can use just about any rifle for defensive purposes, that shooting them can be a lot of fun, and allow students to build some basic defensive carbine manipulation skills.
What materials will you be provided?
- Range materials for this clinic are provided, including targets, eye/ear protection, and any other necessary training materials (firearms and ammunition are NOT provided).

Additional Information
- Students in this clinic will be required to provide their own defensive style rifle, 200 rounds of ammunition, and a minimum of two magazines (four recommended).
- Rental Firearms can be made available upon request on a first come, first served basis. Additional costs will be associated with rental firearms and required ammunition.
- Students are encouraged but not required to have slings, ammo carriers, additional magazines, optics, and/or mounted lights, etc.
Prerequisites
No prior experience is required to attend this clinic; however, students should be familiar with basic operation and function of their chosen firearm as well as the basics of firearms safety and handling.
The Heritage Guild recommends Handgun Core Fundamentals, Rifle 101, and/or a Private Lesson for students with no experience with firearms. Contact the Training Academy with any questions.
