Meet Our Instructors
Matthew S. Vollers
Head Trainer of Training and Education for Heritage Guild Training Academy
Matt, like his peers, has grown up around firearms thanks to his family's strong interest and background in hunting, collecting firearms, and target shooting.
Matt is an NRA Certified Instructor in First Steps and Basic Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun. Matt is also an NRA Chief Range Safety Officer, certified to teach Personal Protection Inside and Outside the Home, as well as Shot Shell and Metallic Cartridge Reloading.
He has worked with fellow NRA Instructors to modify law enforcement and military tactical training courses for civilian use. "I found I've loved teaching people how to become more confident with a firearm."
Dorothea Clevenger is passionate about teaching firearms education, skills, and safety. She especially loves to work with new shooters, helping to build their confidence.
As a Certified NRA instructor in pistol, rifle, shotgun, and firearms home safety, she enjoys introducing individuals to all disciplines. She is currently a facilitator for a Shooting League for Women. She is a proud member of our Heritage Guild Shooting Team and has had the honor to compete at the IDPA World Championships in South Carolina, the Benelli Tactical Shotgun Championships in Kentucky, Indoor Nationals and BUG Nationals at Smith & Wesson in Massachusetts, as well as being selected to shoot with a squad, two years in a row, for the Benelli Invitational in Sporting Clays in Maryland.
When not in the classroom or working with her shooting group, she can be found actively shooting and competing at different courses across the US. With being a NRA Range Safety Officer and IDPA Safety Officer, Dorothea feels safety, education, and responsible gun ownership is always number one.
Randy started shooting Sporting Clays in 1995 and was drawn immediately. He started competing the next year. After taking a few lessons and competing regularly, his passion for the sport led him to become a National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA) Certified Instructor in 2003. He also has an NRA Basic Shotgun Instructor Certification and has been a Head Coach in the Scholastic Clay Target Program since 2006.
As a shooter, Randy has earned and maintained a Master Classification with NSCA.
Randy "finds it very rewarding to teach shooters, new and experienced, on how to shoot better and enjoy shotgunning now and far into the future."
Rich has been a firearms instructor since 1998 and he trains over 100 students a year. He is an NRA-certified to instruct pistol, rifle, shotgun, and range safety.
Rich collects, displays, and does formal public presentations on historic firearms. He competes in NRA Bulls-eye, USPSA, and historic arms competitions.
In addition to coaching experienced shooters, Rich enjoys training new shooters, getting them safe, proficient, and prepared for future firearms sports and activities.
Rick, as he is known at the Easton store, is an NRA Pistol Instructor.
"I have enjoyed the shooting sports since I was 8 years old. I want to teach the safe use of firearms to as many people as possible in order to continue and promote our 2nd Amendment rights."
Shane Humphrey is a former Special Police Officer from Hampton VA, an avid pistol shooter, and NRA certified Firearms Instructor. He enjoys the shooting sports and instructing new and experienced shooters in the various aspects of firearms. Shane looks forward to meeting you in one of the many Heritage Guild Firearms classes.
Jim wanted to be an instructor so that he could introduce new shooters to the sport and give them a proper foundation to build on, particularly as it pertains to safety.
Teaching allows Jim to dispel misconceptions about the shooting sports and firearms in general and has enabled him to broaden his options at The Heritage Guild.
Jim is a registered architect and has actually designed private and law enforcement shooting ranges. As an NRA Life Member, Jim feels strongly about our 2nd Amendment rights and decided to formalize his 25+ years of firearms experience by becoming an NRA Certified Instructor.
He is certified in Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, and Home Firearm Safety as well as Metallic Cartridge & Shotgun Shell reloading. Jim is also a Range Safety Officer and emphasizes firearm safety to over 50 students per month. In his spare time, Jim likes to compete in IDPA pistol competitions and umpire Little League games.
Kevin fired the first live rounds of a firearm when he first joined the military and has been a die-hard gun enthusiast ever since. He obtained expert marksman certifications on many types of firearms throughout his military career.
Kevin began working for the Heritage Guild as a Range Safety Officer. He quickly earned his certification as an NRA Instructor for Basic Pistol, Home Firearm Safety, and Personal Protection in the home.
Now, as our Event Coordinator, Kevin organizes and facilitates groups of brand new as well as experienced shooters that come to the Heritage Guild for special occasions and events.
